Appearance: Earthstar is a strong cat, his muscular frame enough to show for that. His pelt is a deep, murky brown, with mottled grays, creams, and blacks dotted throughout the short-haired fur. All four of his paws are a different color, giving him the appearance of a patch-work quilt of the earth that has been stitched together, earning him his name. His eyes are a deep, emerald green that always shine brightly in the darkness, due mainly to the cat's enthusiasm for life. With his light pink nose and white whiskers, Earthstar has an appearance of a wizened old cat, which may not hold true to his age, but does line up with his personality. Earthstar's claws, are, naturally, kept in good condition, whether by scratching them into trees or by hunting. His fangs, too, are kept sharp. The cat's body is stocky but limber, and his pelt provides excellent camouflage against the leaves of Leafgreen. In the barren winter months, too, he is able to blend into shadows and become almost invisible. Of course, his dark pelt makes it nearly impossible for him to hunt in the snow, but can manage to catch something on occasion if he sticks around trees or areas without a lot of snow. Scars dot his body, too, from both past battles and the storm (along with the long travel into their new territory), but the majority of his body remains healthy. Only a few old injuries stick out, one being a tear in his left ear from a bygone battle, and a scar across his right flank from a tree-branch during the storm. Despite these old wounds, Earthstar is in good condition and is more than ready to prove it to his clan.
Personality:
Calm and Collected: Earthstar is a naturally calm, easygoing cat, and rarely has a temper. Unfortunately, this has been known to cause him to lapse into a daydream and forget about his duties to his clan. His laid-back personality has given rise to a lot of younger cats taking a liking to him. Unlike the elders, or a mentor, Earthstar tends to skate over their faults and focus on the good in all cats. This tendency withstanding, he will reprimand a cat if necessary, and does not "go easy" on them, either. If he feels a cat honestly deserves punishment, he'll give it.
Hard-headed: From a young kit, Earthstar has always been stubborn. As an apprentice, if his mentor told him to do something and he felt it wasn't right, he argued his own beliefs into he ground, refusing to bow to an order just because it came from an older, wiser cat. When the storm came and shook many cat's beliefs in Starclan, Earthstar's bull-headedness has helped him stay firm in his own personal beliefs. Many cats may wonder, now, about their starry ancestors, but Earthstar has managed to grapple valiantly and hold on to what he believes, as a tribute to his hard headed nature.
Friendly/ Caring: Albeit a bit hard-headed and stubborn, the tom is generally playful and friendly, and tries his best to prove himself to the clan. He is a caring cat, as well, and is always first to rush around and help people. However, his tendency to help is marred by his clumsy side, which seems to get in the way. The tom can frequently be seen playing with kits and apprentices, despite his 30 odd moons. In his opinion, "we don't stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing."
Fierce/ Poor Hunter: Despite his clumsiness, Earthstar is an exceptional cat for battle, and is always seen on the front line, which attests to many of his scars. Sadly, he has always been a poor hunter, and tends to stick to patrols rather than hunting parties. As an apprentice, he felt no need to learn the skills of hunting, because he felt that battle was a much more courageous way to earn a name for himself with his clan.
Involved/ Loyal: The tom is always very involved in clan life, and loves the life he leads. Many times he finds himself enjoying the simple pleasures in life, like the smell of a flower he finds in the forest, or the sight of new born kits in the clans. Not very hard to please, Earthstar is friends to many, if not all of his clan, and will always be the first to jump up and defend each and every one of them.
History: Earthstar was born to two Jayclan cats: Shadowstep and Wolf-fang. The two cats had been in Jayclan for their entire lives, and they gave birth to a litter of five beautiful kittens. Shadowstep raised the five kits into brave, loyal, and faithful apprentices, and when the time came they each were taken on to be mentored by an older cat of the clan. Each day the kittens grew, Earthpaw among them. He showed exceptional battling skills, but drew the short end of the stick when it came to hunting, unlike his brother Snakefang. His sisters, Leaftail, Goldenear, and Heatherfur were also shaping up into good cats that would make strong clan warriors.
As an apprentice, Earthpaw was little more than a pawful. He was constantly disobeying orders and arguing, and was the last of his siblings to be made a warrior because of it. Despite this, Earthpaw was a cat who was willing to learn, and was appointed to a warrior not long after the rest of his siblings.
By the time they were all made warriors, the cats were strong and loyal and the epitome of health. They were warriors that would make their clan proud. Earthclaw especially thirsted to prove his bravery and skills to his clan, and worked as hard as he could to improve himself and help his clan.
With his hard work and dedication, within a few moons Earthclaw had risen to a position of a well-respected, loyal, and hard-working cat. When the former deputy, Whitestripe, was killed in battle, the Jayclan leader chose Earthclaw as her new deputy, to much surprise of the clan. Surely an older cat? They all asked themselves. But some in the clan agreed with their leader's choice: Earthclaw had proven himself again and again as a responsible, loyal cat, even if he was a bit star-struck and clumsy sometimes.
At twenty-eight moons now, the newly appointed deputy was barely given six moons before the storm hit. Earthclaw's sisters, mother, and father were taken by the terrible storm, and only he and his brother made it alive. The Jayclan leader, too, was struck by a fallen tree, losing her last life, and thus passing her leadership duties onto her new deputy. Snakefang became horribly distant to his brother, but Earthstar, being the quiet cat that he is, doesn't press.
Now settled into his new home, the new Jayclan leader plans to do his best to help his clan, and maybe even help his brother along the way. Many of Jayclan have ill-feelings to the new leader, given his age and inexperience, but despite his fears, Earthstar aims to lead his clan to greatness in their new home.
Roleplay Example: Morning. Sunlight streamed down through the trees, creating a subtle vision of a slender animal. Crouched beneath the shadows, it's body was tense and wary. The slow, whispering tendrils of the trees blew softly in the wind and a few early leaves tumbled down from their lofty towers. But the animal did not stir.
Suddenly, like the slow fog tip-toeing gently over the mountains, the animal moved forward into the light. Soft-tipped ears twitched two and fro, followed by the low swing of it's tail sweeping across the first fallen leaves of Autumn; Leaf-fall, it was called by his people. Creeping farther into the sunlight, the animal stopped quickly, his muscles rippling beneath his sleek pelt of dusky brown.
The animal, (more explicitly stated, the feline, for that was what it most obviously was), seemed to blend in to the hidden shadows and earthy browns beneath his feet, and even the green patches of grass among the forest floor. Earthstar was his name, and it suited his brown and gray mottled body well, for he certainly looked as if a patchwork quilt of the earth had risen up and shaped itself in the form of none other but the proud body of a cat.
The trees swayed gently in the wind high above his head, and cool amber eyes focused down upon his prey. The velvety fur of a mouse, sinking it's teeth into whatever it was feasting upon now... Earthstar would soon be feasting upon it's flesh. Emerald eyes burning out from the shadows, the cat leaped, and the mouse was caught between his sword-sharp claws. One last squeak of defiance, and blood stained the cat's paws like a river bursting out of a dam that had stoppered it's flow for more than an age.
Gently picking up the defeated mouse in his jaws, Earthstar padded forward through the gently swaying trees whispering in the wind. Time moved on, it would seem, and change came slowly.
The forest was a wide expanse, but Earthstar's quick pace covered the distance quickly, and he was soon returning home to his own clan. Laying his kill down on the patch of earth marked for the fresh-kill pile, the cat of the Clan looked around him. Two young kits and their mother. His clanmates. Everyone around him looked happy. His ears moved to rotate behind him, catching thin words on the floating breeze.
His limber form padded across the clearing back to the fresh-kill pile, where he chose a vole from the pile. Carrying it to a shady spot in the clearing, he bit into it, simply enjoying the pleasures of being in his clan and hoping someone might join him to eat.[/center]
