How would you do that? -- Reedstripe's actions, words, whatever, could hint at something. And if we ever get a med cat or meddy apprentice to talk to StarClan, they might get a hint. o:
What do birds eat? Worms, right? Why would the worms be gone? -- Birds can't eat only worms. (Which would have been buried/killed anyway) They eat other stuff too, like berries or whatnot. But a good bit of them had probably all flown south or whatnot, it being autumn.
Upstream or downstream? -- o-o Um. Why?
How would the prey's food leave? -- Because of all the things I mentioned earlier. :D
Why can't they expand away from each other instead of toward each other? -- Other boundaries and stuff.
Squirrels store food in their nests? I thought they buried it. How would it be smashed? -- I think some food, at least. o-o Maybe I'm wrong...? But even if it is in the ground, they'd have loads of debris all over it, and then if squirrels had been in trees that had been knocked down... well, ow. Squirrel's probably dead. D:
So you're saying the tornado swept back and forth in a concentrated area like an eraser? Don't they tend to go in lines? -- No. o.o
By food, I mean plants. I don't think you mean the plants packed up and left. -- They packed up and took the Tornado Airlines to the compost pile. =D
...what? -- Malthusian dude sez - A population can only get so large before it strains its own resources and then some giant disaster will come and knock down the population so they're stable again.

"Reedstripe's actions and stuff can hint about what happened?" "Reedstripe's actions, words, whatever, could hint at something." -- What specific actions or words could hint?
"Reedstripe sat down." " 'Omigosh there must have been a prophecy!' "
Not like that, of course. So how?
"a good bit of them had probably all flown south" -- Mmkay.
"o-o Um. Why?" -- Well, since they swam away, I was thinking about how they would do that. Swimming upstream would be hard. Swimming downstream - don't they already do that?
"Other boundaries and stuff." "One Clan might not be able to expand one way because there's a twolegplace...and...stuff." -- Is there a twoleg place? What stuff?
"No. o.o" -- Tornados don't go in lines? They go in solid shapes?
"it probably cut straight through the territory and the force of it would have destroyed a considerable amount of territory." -- Is there a reason everyone couldn't just scoot over to the left?
"A population can only get so large before it strains its own resources and then some giant disaster will come and knock down the population so they're stable again." -- Um, okay. Wouldn't that mean that the cat and prey population is stable now?

Not like that, of course. So how? -- Reedstripe... might be more emo at times, react to bad situations oddly, mis-hear/interpret/think questions, yeah. Or we could just make him lose his mind and launch a whole confession. :D -shot- Orr, like I said before, a new meddy apprentice might get a hint from StarClan.
Well, since they swam away, I was thinking about how they would do that. Swimming upstream would be hard. Swimming downstream - don't they already do that? -- Well... either way, the fish are gone. So yeah.
Is there a twoleg place? What stuff? -- Yep, there was. And Twoleg places, roads, farms, yeah.
Tornados don't go in lines? They go in solid shapes? -- Well, there are wedge tornadoes.... o: But that's not the kind we're talking about. Anyway. I never said they didn't go in lines. o-o
Is there a reason everyone couldn't just scoot over to the left? -- Those barriers. -points up- And it was a distance before they found a decent place.
Um, okay. Wouldn't that mean that the cat and prey population is stable now? -- ...Sure. But way before, when they were having a load of kits, they didn't feel like having a mass death, so they went on to fight for more territory, causing the Clans to sometimes be on bad terms.

"What specific actions or words could hint?"
Along with the stuff Elena said, Reedstripe would also be reluctant or hesitant to speak when someone asks him why StarClan were silent or if he had received any signs.
"Is there a twoleg place? What stuff?"
A twolegplace, thunderpaths/roads, mountains, mayhap?
"Tornados don't go in lines? They go in solid shapes?"
Uhm. They go in lines, yes? o.o
"Is there a reason everyone couldn't just scoot over to the left?"
The same reason they couldn't extend their territory the opposite direction--the boundaries. Also, any surviving prey would have likely fled for at least a while, and, as it was leaf-fall, the Clans couldn't afford to wait 'a while,' so they had to leave. Aaaand... -was gonna say something else but forgot- o.o;

Hm. Okay then.
Remind me what the central conflict is?

Let's see.... The Clans are (one) in a new territory and have to adjust and support themselves while winter comes, and (two) have a problem with cats believing in StarClan, and they aren't sure where others' loyalties lie and how far their lack of belief in a StarClan-oriented clan might take them. Am I missing anything, Anika? o:

"Do you know the literary definiton of conflict? "
There are...quite a few definitions?
A serious disagreement or argument, typically a protracted one. A prolonged armed struggle. An incompatibility between two or more opinions, principles, or interests.
Suuu...the last definition would fit the conflict? The cats have conflicting opinions, etc.

"There are...quite a few definitions?" --x
From the dictionary, yeah. I'm asking if you know the literary one. You know, literary, as in literature?
Do you know the literary definition of conflict?

"Conflict is the struggle between the opposing forces on which the action in a work of literature depends."
So um. o-o Fits all right?

"Conflict is the struggle between the opposing forces on which the action in a work of literature depends." --x
Something like that. My book has a similar wording.
"Conflict: struggle or clash between opposing characters, forces, or emotions."
What are the two opposing forces and how are they struggling with one another?

Well, conflict can be in different forms, so it doesn't have to be 'protagonist vs. antagonist in death match.'
So basically the Clans are struggling with their new environment and its problems, and also struggling with cats they're not sure they can trust.

As I recall, some of the forms of conflict are... -Person against person -Person against society -Person against Nature -Person against Destiny and... Something else I can't remember.
And. -pokes Elena's post- The Clans struggled against nature--the tornado--and now are struggling to survive in the new territory. And some cats are against the Clans' way of life itself.

I mean in the role play itself.
How are they stuggling with anything or anyone that you listed?
